Structure of Recruitment

Recruitment is a four-day process, with each day focusing on different aspects of sorority life:

Day 1: Values

A virtual/video round. You’ll create a short video introducing yourself and sharing your values. Chapters also showcase what matters most to them—like leadership, integrity, and community.

Day 2: Philanthropy

During in-person events, you’ll learn about the causes supported by each sorority. Ask questions and discover where your passions might align.

Day 3: Sisterhood

Visit up to five organizations to explore what sets their bonds and traditions apart. This is the moment to seek out the “vibe” of each chapter and connect with potential sisters.

Day 4: Preference & Bid Day

The most personal round. You may have deep conversations with one or two chapters, followed by an exhilarating bid day celebration where new members “run home” to their chosen sorority.

Getting Ready: What to Wear & Bring

Dress for Comfort and Confidence:
Recruitment is not about high fashion but self-expression. For the early rounds, opt for casual-cute outfits or anything that makes you feel like yourself. As you get closer to preference, you may want to wear a dress or something a bit dressier. Comfort is essential—App State’s sorority leaders encourage you to dress in a way that feels authentic to you.

Pack Your Bag With:

  • Water bottle

  • Snacks

  • Homework or something to entertain yourself (there can be long breaks)

  • Prescription medications

  • Fan or cooling towel for long days

Key Tips for Finding Your Perfect Fit

1. Be Yourself

It’s tempting to lean into stereotypes or mold your answers to what you think a sorority wants. Resist the urge! Authenticity is the secret—it’s easier to form real connections and find the group where you’ll thrive long-term.

2. Ask Honest Questions

Don’t be afraid to ask about what matters most to you: philanthropy, leadership opportunities, social events, or academic support. The more open you are, the easier it will be to find your home.

3. Stay Open-Minded

Go into recruitment with an open heart and mind. App State’s Greek life is unique; avoid making decisions based on rumors, social media, or outside influences. Give every chapter a fair chance, and you might be surprised where you feel most comfortable.

4. Take Care of Yourself

Recruitment can be long and energy-intensive. Prioritize sleep, hydration, and nourishment. Don’t forget to check in with yourself during breaks, and talk to your recruitment counselor (Rho Gamma) about any challenges or conflicts.

5. Trust the Process

Not everyone finds their match right away, but most participants find a welcoming home if they follow through the entire journey. If you’re ever unsure, talk openly to your Rho Gamma or other sorority members—they’re there to help.

What Happens After Bid Day?

Bid Day marks the beginning of your sorority journey. You’ll attend introductory sisterhood events, get paired with a mentor (Big), and start learning about your chapter’s traditions and philanthropic commitments. Don’t worry if you feel nervous—every new member is settling in and discovering their place.
